Current Vacancies
The Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology is a leading new provider of higher education, based at the UK headquarters of Dyson Technology in Malmesbury. Founded in 2017, the Institute has been educating engineers who study two days a week and work in Dyson the other three days. The Institute is now looking to appoint an external member to its Ethics Committee to help achieve the delivery of our 2028 Strategy.

In the last 12 months the Institute has been awarded Full Degree Awarding Powers by the Office for Students and was graded as Outstanding in all areas by Ofsted. With the objective of achieving Research Degree Awarding Powers, the Institute is working towards expanding research activities as well as focusing on excellence of learning and teaching. As a member of the Institute Ethics Committee, the appointed external member is expected to contribute to ensuring all research and L&T activities comply with research integrity and ethical principles.
Our portfolio currently consists of undergraduate and postgraduate taught provision, but we are expecting to develop this further.
Requirements
- Attendance at up to five meetings of Ethics Committee per year (In-person attendance is preferred, but virtual attendance will be agreeable for the right candidate).
- An ability to provide advice, support, and challenge to all areas of the Institute’s academic ethical provision to ensure excellence.
Person Specification
- Qualified to PhD level in a STEM related field
- Significant professional experience in a higher education, research, or industry setting, with a strong understanding of research methodologies and their ethical implications.
- Knowledge of national and international ethical guidelines and regulations governing research and teaching, including but not limited to, human subjects research, data privacy, and academic integrity.
- In-depth understanding of ethical standards and principles related to research integrity, academic honesty, and professional conduct.
- Previous experience serving on ethics committees or institutional review boards (IRBs) is highly desirable.

Those appointed will be appointed for three years and receive an honorarium of £750 per year.
